NetStar Technologies SecurSat
VPN Service is the fastest, most cost-effective satellite VPN available.
SecurSat VPN Service eliminates traditional performance problems associated
with VPN-over-satellite. It can be cost effective with as little as a single
remote location. There is no minimum or maximum number of sites a customer
may or must deploy.
NetStar Technologies supports
most popular "regular" client-server VPNs (Cisco, Nortel, CheckPoint etc),
however, these VPN applications don't produce a robust user experience
over a satellite connection. If you have tried using one of these VPN applications
over a satellite connection, you know that performance suffers badly when
the VPN is activated. VPN service over satellite without SecurSat VPN Service
is typically a less than 33 kbps single user application at its best. NetStar
Technologies' SecurSat VPN Service eliminates this problem.

To
enable the SecureSat VPN service, NetStar Technologies utilizes client
chosen IPSEC compliant VPN hardware (router to router) to connect from
the client's corporate data center to the satellite Network Operations
Center to provide a secure connection between the client's corporate data
center and the satellite Network Operations Center. All data traffic
between the client's headquarters and remote satellite locations will be
transported exclusively across secure connections. Traffic is carried across
the Internet using an IPSec compliant VPN tunnel to the satellite uplink
center, and from the uplink center traffic is carried across a private
satellite network to the client's remote site. Each remote location requires
the installation of one of our Two-Way Broadband Satellite Systems.
Due to the asymmetric nature
of satellite Internet, certain applications do not perform very well over
satellite, regardless of whether used in a VPN or in the clear. SecureSat
VPN Service is not a not a cure-all for satellite-related performance issues.
It's simply is a way to use a VPN without the traditional severe VPN-induced
degradation. It does not increase whatever level or speed of service that
would be available for a particular protocol/application above the level
found if the application/protocol were to be used "in the clear".
SecureSat VPN Service will
support from 1 up to 50 remote sites. Customers have the option of
split-tunneling non-secure public Internet traffic directly to the Internet
backbone from the remote site, or having all traffic tunneled to the headquarters
location for routing to the Internet. SecureSat VPN Service is not a transparent-LAN
application, although limited host-to-remote connectivity may be established
with customized solutions.
