Customer Software Required
for Dedicated Internet Access

Domain Name Service (DNS) software
to run on your Internet server.

E-mail server software, including
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to route mail onto the Internet and
Post Office Protocol 3 (POP-3) to receive and distribute messages between
the e-mail server and individual users.

InterNet News (INN) software
to run on your Internet news server.

Web server software, such as
Apache server software, if you want to "publish" a home page on the WWW.

TCP/IP protocol stack installed
on each end-user host or client. Optionally, you may install a gateway
that will provide the translation between your LAN protocol and TCP/IP
which is the protocol of the Internet.

E-mail package installed on
each end-user host or client.

Web browser such as Netscape
Navigator installed on each host. The browser can also interface to the
HTML files on disk. Usually included with the Web browser is FTP, a program
which moves files using the File Transfer Protocol.

Telnet may also be installed
on each host.

Internet server system administration
tools which allow the administrator to configure the network, set up multiple
users, manage disk space, etc.

Router network debugging tools,
such as traceroute and ping.
